What that means to me is that this person has writing skills. That they have a track record for being able to put stuff out. I won't be chancing my time with someone who is a newbie, or doesn't have their stuff together. I was also intrigued by the premise of the book. This book is to look at the deeper values that should inform our lives. Mr. Brooks has decided to look at what he calls our "resume virtues" as compared to our "eulogy virtues". He wants to examine how through internal struggle we get a sense of our own limitation and how that effects our character. I think we could all stand to take a closer look at how we live our lives, why we live our lives the way we do, and maybe if we are taking the best approach. I say give this book a chance by clicking on our Audible coupon. That will sign you up for an Audible Free Trial and you can get this book for free, plus a 4-week trial. Why not have some self-exploration from a NYT's columnist? To find more books, go to http://www.audible-free.livejournal.com. I have had chronic back pain for close to three years now. I have basically exhausted most of my options. Therefore, I'm onto other avenues. The outside of the box kind of stuff. The kind of situation where people like to take advantage of your desperation. One of the suggestions was that I use magnets to reset my body.I'm pretty much sure this is the same thing as in the old west when there used to be charlatans that would sell you snake oil. You know, kind of like essential oils right now, but I digress. I thought, what the hay, I will read up on it and see if there is any modicum of science behind it. I then, of course, went to my trusty Audible to see if they had a book on the subject. Well, of course they do! It is called Pain Treatment With Magnets. I figure I will see if there is anything worth while in this therapy from this book. I knew that Audible would have my back! Literally! I suggest while I try out this book, you try out Audible. When you use our Audible coupon, it will sign you up for an Audible Free Trial. You can pick this book, or any other book that you like on the site. I often times like to sprinkle the newer works of authors in with some of the tried and true of those from our past. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Johnny Got His Gun is considered a classic. The more I thought of it, I agree. This was one of the first books to speak out against war, to be used as protest tool. Often times, especially back in the day, war was glorified. It was the outcome that mattered and nothing else. The ugly parts of war were hushed, not talked about. This is not the case in Johnny Got His Gun. This book goes very deep, and very intensely into what it is like for the individual for war. More specifically, when the soldier doesn't just get to walk away. The toll is astronomical. It can not be glossed over. Wars are won with individuals, and those individuals matter. This book was used to help illustrate caution before going into World War 2 and as a protest piece for the Vietnam war. I personally think it is a classic because it touched me greatly. I read it when I was only in middle school. Perhaps too young, but it really influenced me to think of the cost of war, the soldier. The families. The fact that a war doesn't end for a lot of soldiers on the battle field. It can cost them their lives, and not just through death. All you need to do is click our Audible coupon. Mr. Ishiguro has a new book out called The Buried Giant; yet, what I really want to highlight is the fact that this man has written some great novels, which only lends proof that his new novel will be a good one. Never Let Me Go was made into a movie with Andrew Garfield, Keira Knightley, and Carey Muligan, that's how popular it was. The book is about a boarding school that is not all that it seems. Students there are well tended, study arts and literature, but are cut off from the outside world. Why? Because humanity is not what it should be. This book won the Fiction Alex Award in 2006 and was a National Book Critics Circle Award nominee in 2005. It deserves the accolades. It touches on subjects of justice, the human condition, and love. Try out this great novelist today, whether it be for this book, The Remains of the Day, or When We Were Orphans. Chances are, you will like what you try. Plus, it's free, so there is that. There are so many books that you can choose from, like Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. The synopsis listed by the great people at Audible reads as follows: The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.
