Try our Audible coupon and you also get the Audible Free Trial! Why not try Calendar Girl: June?

From the description:
Politics, phallic statues, and pretty women.
Literally everywhere you look, you see an old man and a gold-digging, cling-on wrapped around their wrinkly arms.
Looks as though my hot streak ended when Warren Shipley, one of the nation's wealthiest men, hired me to play arm-candy to save face with the other one-percenters he did business with. At least that's what I thought when I arrived in Washington, DC, until I was met by old man Shipley's debonair and insanely handsome son. The Senator from California, Aaron Shipley. Youngest senator in the history of politics, single, beyond rich, and the face of every political magazine around the US. Women everywhere wanted a taste of that power.
Me, I'd always thought politics were boring...boy was I wrong. Democracy had never been more exciting.
In the sixth book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia is sent to our nation's capital, Washington, DC. Still on her mission to save her father, she embraces the life of a gold-digging mistress in order to get a life-saving project off the ground.
Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will feature Mia's journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

You are just going to love our Audible coupon and you also get the Audible Free Trial! Why not try Three Junes?

From the description:
Three Junes is a vividly textured symphonic novel set on both sides of the Atlantic during three fateful summers in the lives of a Scottish family. In June 1989, Paul McLeod, the recently widowed patriarch, becomes infatuated with a young American artist while traveling through Greece, and is compelled to relive the secret sorrows of his marriage. Six years later, Paul's death reunites his sons at Tealing, their idyllic childhood home, where Fenno, the eldest, faces a choice that puts him at the center of his family's future. A lovable, slightly repressed gay man, Fenno leads the life of an aloof expatriate in the West Village, running a shop filled with books and birdwatching gear. He believes himself safe from all emotional entanglements - until a worldly neighbor presents him with an extraordinary gift and a seductive photographer makes him an unwitting subject. Each man draws Fenno into territories of the heart he has never braved before, leading him toward an almost unbearable loss that will reveal to him the nature of love.Love in its limitless forms - between husband and wife, between lovers, between people and animals, between parents and children - is the force that moves these characters' lives, which collide again, in yet another June, over a Long Island dinner table. This time it is Fenno who meets and captivates Fern, the same woman who captivated his father in Greece ten years before. Now pregnant with a son of her own, Fern, like Fenno and Paul before him, must make peace with her past to embrace her future. Elegantly detailed yet full of emotional suspense, often as comic as it is sad, Three Junes is a glorious triptych about how we learn to live, and live fully, beyond incurable grief and betrayals of the heart - how family ties, both those we're born into and those we make, can offer us redemption and joy.

Our Audible coupon makes it easy to get the Audible Free Trial in May! I'm currently listening to and loving Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

From the description:
Six-year-old Rocky worships his older brother Paul - 16 and full of rebel cool, smoking cigarettes, driving around in his Nova blasting Neil Young - until the day Paul, in an ill-advised act of vengeance against their father, picks Rocky up from school and nearly leaves him for dead in the woods.

Paul then runs off with his beautiful, fragile girlfriend, never to be heard from again.
Eight years later Rocky is a teenager himself. Although he's never forgotten the abandonment of his boyhood hero, he's now getting over it, with the help of the wealthy neighbors' daughter, Patricia, 10 years his senior, who has taken him as her lover. Rocky's in love - or thinks he is - but the affair sets off a sequence of events that bring ruin to the lives of both families.
In the spirit of Willie Morris, Tom Franklin, and Wiley Cash, this spellbinding debut draws you into a small-town American Gothic story of family fealty, scandal, and murder.

Our Audible coupon gets you April 1865 for free! Heavy but good!

Picture
Our Audible coupon makes it easy to get the Audible Free Trial in April. I'm using it for April 1865: The Month That Saved America.
From the description:
This New York Times best seller from noted historian and acclaimed author Jay Winik forever changes common perceptions of the final month of the American Civil War.
April 1865 could have destroyed the nation. Instead it saved it. As April begins, the battered Confederate capital of Richmond falls to the Union Army. Robert E. Lee surrenders his forces to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox one week later.

In good spirits and sensing the war's end, President Abraham Lincoln attends a comedic play - and is assassinated. Simultaneously, Secretary of State William Seward is brutally attacked but survives. Along with fears that remaining Confederate soldiers will break into guerrilla bands, these events threaten to plunge America into turmoil. But it is not to be.
Winik's engrossing narrative sweeps listeners along from one incredible moment to the next until, remarkably, peace is reached. A provocative and deeply researched account, this modern classic is a major reassessment of the 30 most pivotal days in United States history.

If you're thinking of trying our Audible coupon to get the Audible Free Trial in April, try Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt and read along with me!

From the description:

The Civil War was such a complex event. It tore the fabric of our nation as well as within families.

This is the story of the Civil War as it affected ten year old Jephtha. He was a petted youngest brother at the beginning but had to take over running the farm when his older brothers all went to war. Two of his brothers went to fight for the North and one for the South. A cousin went and fought for the North and after two years of heavy fighting deserted.

Jephtha has to wrestle with the issue of who to ask for help in deciding what to do (He ends up writing Lincoln, and getting a personal letter from him.) The reality of war is presented carefully in letters from the front. This lets you know what it was like without putting a child through emotional stress listening to it.

If your family is studying the Civil War, I highly recommend this book. It will give you lots to talk about re the issues of the war.

From the description:

M. Savage - or Em, as she is called - has made a bewildering and ominous discovery. She and the other young people she was chosen to lead awoke in strange coffins with no memory of their names or their pasts. They faced an empty, unknown place of twisting tunnels and human bones. With only one another to depend on, they searched for answers and found the truth about their terrifying fate. Confronted by a monstrous enemy, they vowed never to surrender - and, by any means, to survive.
The planet Omeyocan may be the sanctuary Em and her comrades seek. But the planet for which they were created turns out not to be a pristine, virgin world. Vestiges of a lost civilization testify to a horrifying past that may yet repeat itself. And when a new enemy creeps from the jungle shadows, Em and her young refugees learn there's nowhere left to run. They face a simple choice: fight or die.
In the midst of this desperate struggle, their unity is compromised from within - and a dangerous zealot devoted to a bloodthirsty god moves to usurp Em's command, threatening to lead them all down a path to violent doom.

Plagued by the memory of his abusive father, apprehensive about his own impending parenthood, Earl is a decorated ex-Marine of absolute integrity — and overwhelming melancholy. Now he’s about to face his biggest, bloodiest challenge yet.

It is the summer of 1946, organized crime’s garish golden age, when American justice seems to have gone to seed for good. Nowhere is this more true than in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the reigning capital of corruption. When the district attorney vows to bring down the mob, Earl is recruited to run the show. As casino raids erupt into nerve-shattering combat amid screaming prostitutes and fleeing johns, the body count mounts — along with the suspense.

Come on, how can you not love a main character who is named Swagger!
