I understand where you're coming from, because I'm pretty new to the game myself. I've been watching with interest for about five years, and following my Jets for about three.
As I get more familiar each year, I get more interested in different parts of the whole that I've been too novice to focus on until I learned the basics.
For example, this year I'm far more interested in how the head coach, and all the other coaches, influence a team's game on and off the field. We have a new head coach at the Jets organization, and I'm excited to see how the team lives and breathes with Coach Bowles. He seems like he keeps things close to the vest, which is a pretty big departure from Rex Ryan.
An that might be just what we need. If we can keep a solid defense, we might just do okay. We won our first game anyway!
To learn more about coaching, I'm checking out Blood, Sweat and Chalk: Inside Football's Playbook: How the Great Coaches Built Today's Game, by Tim Laden.
How are you getting geared up for the season?
