I get to listen to the third book in the Infected trilogy, Pandemic, thanks to my Audible Free Trial. I have been reading Scott's novels for a really long time. I have enjoyed all of his works. My favorites are Nocturnal and Infected. So imagine how upsetting it was to me with this back injury that I wouldn't be able to sit down and read his latest book Pandemic. I mean, it all started with Infected. I read the sequel, Contagious, and loved it. I couldn't imagine not being able to finish this wonderful, adventurous, thrill-ride with his books just because of my back. Audible, once again, saved the day. Well, and of course, since Mr. Sigler is so kind to his fans to realize that we might need different formats to enjoy his books. However, thanks to Audible, and their great service, I get to enjoy one of my favorite authors and finish the trilogy. Click here to get your 30 day free Audible Trial. You will have a whole new world open up to you. More information about Audible is here: http://audible-free.livejournal.com. I finished Warm Bodies today by Isaac Marion. I wasn't super impressed. I was able to listen to the book thanks to an Audible Free Trial. When I tried out Audible, thanks to the free trial, it has hooked me for life. As for this YA zombie book -- I'm not a fan. There were just too many inconsistencies for me to enjoy it. I just didn't find it very believable that she would date a zombie to begin with. I didn't find it believable that her dad was such a hard ass. I didn't find it believable that Perry would just forgive the zombie who ate him. I mean, I guess that is what makes it a popular YA book. Teenage girls like to think they are dating a bad boy. Who is more of a bad boy than a zombie? Teenage girls also think their parents are so mean -- that they don't understand. I also found it very unbelievable that there isn't a bar in the stadium. Really? Not believable. The kiss in the end changed the world? I guess teenagers think their love is the end-all-be-all, but this was a stretch. I guess in the end though I'm the one who is wrong. This is a popular book because teenagers identify with the main characters and their struggles. I guess I just found it all too unbelievable. Click here to get your 30 day free Audible Trial. Once I figured out the writing device Atkinson used to tell the story (a type of reincarnation), I enjoyed it more. However, as the novel went on, this very same writing device grew increasingly annoying. It became harder and harder to tell what "time" you were in. Where was Ursula? Who was alive? Who was dead? What had already happened? I found this detracted from my enjoyment of the book. I kind of liked the premise, getting to redo your life. However, I didn't like the fact the main character never accomplished anything. It wasn't like she kept improving upon her life, and each time she was wiser and just innately KNEW the right course of action. Nope. It seemed a bit haphazard. The ending of the book therefore felt very unsatisfying. She didn't sacrifice herself for a cause, which is the way I thought it was going with the fact that she stated she was a "witness". Nope. Then the confusion that plagued the book worsened at the end. All of the sudden, Teddy is alive? How? When? In what universe? Besides, who cares? The Hitler scene showed that her actions ultimately don't matter, because she will just keep reliving her life, while with some improvements, never for a greater good -- her own or anyone else. She will just keep reliving. It seems rather bleak. It seemed, like a Twilight Zone episode. Therefore, in regards to the end of the book, I did not particularly care for it. No resolution. No "real" message. Not really satisfying. I also didn't like the character point of view somewhat changing from Hugh to Ursula, although, that too didn't seem to take hold or come to completion. All in all, I would be hesitant to recommend this book Interested in this book or another? Just click here to get your 30 day free Audible Trial. It's getting more and more confusing. Interesting story, my sister-in-law is reading it at the same time as me and she texted me in the morning saying that she was beginning to get lost. I asked her what part she was in ... same exact part as me! I was hoping perhaps this was just a poorly written section, but, the further along I get, I think not. I think Kate Atkinson was just losing tack herself, or, maybe she knew where she was at, but didn't realize she wasn't conveying it on the page for her reader. Regardless, I will trudge on. I do want to know how the book ends, but if pressed, I'd say she is losing me as a reader. Interested in this book or another? Just click here to get your 30 day free Audible Trial. I finished the first half in about three to four days. It is entertaining, captivating, and well-written. It takes a bit to get what is going on. The person who is reading the novel is excellent. She has a great voice, great cadence, and great use of her voice to differ between the characters. The second part is about 7 hours and 45 minutes. I'm excited to see what the second half of the book entails. So far, I highly recommend this book. Just click here to get your 30 day free Audible Trial. I got an email suggestion I check out there bargain bin -- get two books for one credit. So I checked it out. One of the books that I chose was In Sheep's clothing. It was in the bargain bin and on the best seller list. That had me sold. So far I am 30 minutes into the roughly 4 hour book and enjoying it very much. Very insightful. The reading of it is a bit mechanical, but, since it is more of a psychology book, it's not bothering me. If you are interested in listening to this book or any other, I highly recommend Audible.com. I love history and I love that this book was written from the historical perspective in relation to Jesus. So I thought, what the hell, I take a chance on this book. I went to Audible, found the book (Yup! It was there!), purchased it with my free credit, downloaded it, and was listening to it in less than five minutes. That is the beauty of Audible.
