Use our Audible coupon and start enjoying all different types of books

Use our Audible coupon to enjoy tons of different types of books, including books that can help you with your health.

I recently started listening to Dr. Sarno about his opinion on how to heal your own back and what's going on back there.

First let me tell you, the guy is a quack. He basically says that it is all in your head. The pain is real, but it is because of underlying emotional issues that causes the pain. He states that you don't even have to do anything about what's emotionally straining you. All you need to do is recognize it.

Um, okay.

The thing that really gets me is that he also says that unless you totally believe in his assessment, it won't work. Not his fault if you don't get better, it's yours. You didn't believe enough.

What a jerk for preying on
people who are desperate to get better.

Although, I am grateful to my Audible Free Trial for ultimately letting me hear this guy. I'd rather have listened to it myself to know what I would think, than not being able to listen to it at all. I might be wondering if there was some wisdom that I was missing out on.

I'd miss out if I'd never tried Audible, but this book is missing it's mark.

Everyone who reads my blogs knows that I have debilitating back pain. I can not sit. I can not lay without pain. It hurts when I walk.

I try to walk as much as I can --right now, 6 minutes at a time seems to be my max.

I just found out about a new/old doctor named Dr. Sarno. I'm not a believer in what he says, but, hell. I'll give it a try.

That's how great Audible is. I can listen to a book about how to treat my back from them. How great is that?

My review of Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

7/12/2014

All I have to say is phew! I'm so glad that book is over. I really felt like this book just dragged and dragged. The adjectives explaining something as simple as a heartbeat seemed to take pages and pages of description. Perhaps it was the way the narrator narrated it. Maybe it was simply the writing. I could not imagine having to narrate this book.

Zuzana, oh, God did I just want her to fall straight off the flying thing she was on and plummet to her death. No more of that whiny girl! She was fine in the first two books, well, not completely, but boy did her charm wear off by the third.

I felt like Mik and Zuzana were supposed to be the light, whimsical portion of the book. Which, it obviously was. Yet, it was too over the top. Too in your face. It didn't seem natural. Oh, just chalk it up to Zuzana being Zuzana. No. Chalk it up to Taylor not being quite the writer she should be yet.

I don't mean to bag on Taylor. She writes YA. However, that's not an excuse. I'm not 11, but there are some much better written YA books out there.

I also felt like the plot was not consistent. It seemed all over the place. The whole premise was trying to get the two species to fight together against Jael. Then all of the sudden, there is some new girl. Eliza. Which, I really did like her character. Yet, it almost seemed too convenient at the end for her to just suddenly being the key to it all? And why didn't we hear more about why Akiva's mom was with the dominion? Huh? We spent way too much time on flourishes and overly abundant adjectives. Taylor should have cleaned up some of her writing and left some room to explain some of that.

Also, maybe some better foreshadowing as to the myth versus prophetic part of it all. I did kind of like that subplot, but for how much she went into detail on all other aspects of the book, this would have been a spot where it would have been appreciated.

One other complaint. When it is on Audible, books need to be concise. I had a very unclear idea in my head who all the players were. From Scarab (?) to the Stelians, to the flying things, to the living shadows ... the list goes on and on.

2 out of 5 stars.

Listen to my book Anguish on Audible! That's right! You can listen to my very own book.

The book is about a young woman named Lily who is hung-up on the boy who got away, Devon. Lily has never gotten over him, since they went to college together at Michigan State University.

Through a series of mystical events, she travels back in time with the opportunity to win his love.

The question is, will it be as easy as she thinks it will be?

You decide!

I'm about an hour and forty minutes into the 3rd installment of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor.

So far, so good. It's picking up exactly where the last book left off.  The seraph's have gotten to earth through a portal and the whole world is watching. We quickly leave that scene to find that Karou is still the one who is in charge of creating new bodies for the souls of the chimaera. The wolf, who is not the wolf, but Karou's friend, is now in charge, but none of the chimaera know this. He, Ziri, is pulling off being Thiago.

Akiva then comes to warn the chimaera that the seraph have enter earth. I'm not really sure of this plot point, that Akiva can't know Thiago is not Thiago, but I will wait and see.

That's the hour and forty minutes!

You guys! It's the third book in the series! I am so excited! I have to admit, I'm a little murky where I left off. However, I'm sure it will all come rushing back.

I really love this series and I am so excited to see how Laini Taylor ends it!

My book review of Pandemic by Scott SiglerĀ

This book review is made possible thanks to my Audible Free Trial.

I very much enjoyed Pandemic by Scott Sigler. It was a great conclusion to a great trilogy.

First of all the book roped me in straight from the beginning. I found myself instantly wondering, and concerned, about Margaret and Clarence's marriage. The dialogue here was so real. It felt like you were standing in their family room, watching their marriage implode. Ugh. Too real.

From there, the action gets started right away. We are introduced to new characters, Steve, his uncle, Cooper and Jeff. Cooper and Jeff seem like friends we all new in college. Immediately likable.

Once again, Scott Sigler reels us in with his character development.

From here a lot of stuff happens. I won't go too into the details, I don't want to spoil it, but the shit hits the fan, and fast. Characters are put into predicaments that nobody would want to find themselves in. Yet, the characters act in ways that we would see ourselves act. That is much appreciated as a reader. You don't want to lose the ability to suspend belief, or start to laugh at the implausibility of the characters.

Once I finished the novel, I have to say, I was satisfied. I was satisfied with the way the trilogy end and the way the final book finished. Well done, Scott Sigler. That's hard to do.

I am exactly 8 hours and 33 minutes into Pandemic. Spoiler alert! Things aren't going so well for our main characters. Margaret Montoya looks like she might be infected since she has some anger issues. However, I'm not so sure what is happening with Tim? Even though we know he's been infected, he's not showing any signs.

As for the crew in the boat, well, things looks bleak. I have a feeling our young Chinese student Steve is going to be crucial to the new breed of infection. As for Jeff and Cooper -- I have a feeling Cooper is going to be something lethal.

I can't wait to find out what is going to happen. Although, I am a bit confused about Margaret's ho-hum attitude about the Hydras. I feel like these things are much worse news than she believes. For as smart as she is, this seems a little weird. But, Scott Sigler is always masterful at weaving a tale, so I look forward to what these Hydras are.
